What is meditation?
Meditation is a practice of training the mind and the body to become more aware, calm, and present. It typically involves turning attention inward (for example to the breath, the body, sensations, feelings or one’s thoughts) and resting in a state of open awareness, without being carried away by distractions. In simpler terms: we slow down the constant thinking, notice what’s happening (in body and mind), and respond rather than react.
The scientific view
From science, meditation involves measurable changes in brain function, nervous system regulation, and various physiological systems.
